The Board of
Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November
27, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioner Mick Pocratsky and
Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz,
Clerk.
The Commissioners
met in General Session. They approved and signed various resolutions, contracts
and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and
discussed upcoming meetings.
Based on the
recommendation of Defiance County Soil & Water Conservation District, the
Board awarded the Culp Ditch #16-02 project to Fenson
Contracting in the amount bid by them of $16,315.00.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update for
the Engineer’s Office and the Landfill.
Julie Rittenhouse,
Defiance County Public Safety Services’ Coordinator, met with the Commissioners
to provide a quarterly update. Julie reported that since June there have been
four hazmat incidents in Defiance County. Julie informed the Board that
Defiance County will be receiving a donation of $10,000.00 from Rover Pipeline.
She is researching options for use of the funds for safety equipment for the
County Hazmat Team and County EMA.
Dr. Reeves,
Defiance County Coroner, met with the Commissioners to discuss the 2018 budget.
He stated that to date this year there have been 27 autopsies with a cost of
over $33,000.00. He stated that the individual costs for autopsies are expected
to increase in 2018. Defiance County contracts annually with Lucas County for
these services. Dr. Reeves also stated that due to an increase in the number of
drugs to test for, it is taking 12-14 weeks to receive results; it was 8-9
weeks previously.
Russ Herman,
Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, met with the Commissioners to
provide an update on various legal matters.
Morris Murray,
Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss the
2018 budget for his department.
