The Board of Defiance
County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11,
2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts
and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and
Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met
in General Session and approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the
calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Lisa Weaner and
Stacie Fedderke, Fort Defiance Humane Society (FDHS), met with the Commissioners and Randy Vogel, Defiance
County Dog Warden, to provide an update. Lisa reported FDHS
having a net income for 2017 of $26,083.72. She reported having an intake of
455 cats and 556 dogs in 2017, of which 94 cats and 379 dogs were adopted. The
Commissioners will be working with FDHS to implement
a new contract for care of dogs taken into custody by the Defiance County Dog Warden.
Justin Kuhn met with
the Commissioners and Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services’ Director, to
discuss relocating the Hicksville Center to a building owned by Mr. Kuhn. This
was originally discussed in 2017, but was determined unaffordable based on rent
requests by Mr. Kuhn. The Commissioners explained that if an agreement on rent
amount could be reached, Mr. Kuhn would need to follow all government
guidelines and requirements regarding the renovations, including Prevailing
Wage Laws. The Board directed Tina to research the amount of monthly rent she
felt the Defiance County Senior Services could afford.
Amy Galbraith,
Defiance County Clerk of Courts, met with the Commissioners to discuss
budgetary issues.
The Commissioners’
Office will be closed on Monday, January 15th
due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
