The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a weekly update for the Engineer’s Office and Landfill. Warren informed the Board that they are working on tree removal on Ney Williams Center Road in preparation for the upcoming paving project.

 

Sandy Kessler, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to hold the First Public Hearing for PY2018 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program; PY 2018 Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF). The programs available to Defiance County were outlined in the State of Ohio Consolidated Plan and were presented at the Public Hearing.

 

Amy Hoffman, Palmer Energy, met with the Commissioners to review the current electric aggregation program. She stated that since 2011, the program has had an estimated total savings of $59,600.00 for Defiance County.

 

Brian Humphreys and Ryan McClure, Ohio Pork Council, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the industry.

 

Jerry Sanders and Jeremy Limber, Fair Board; and Owen Schroeder, Herb Retcher, Char Shininger, and Tammy Bowers, Fair Foundation, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. The Commissioners informed them that they have submitted a request for funds from the Capital Budget Bill for a new Senior/Veterans Pavilion. The Fair Foundation stated that they are willing to purchase a restroom facility for the area that would include: and ADA restroom, a men’s restroom and a women’s restroom; they requested assistance in funding the installation of this unit.
