The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a weekly update for the Engineer’s Office and the Landfill.

 

Per the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, the Commissioners approved the plans for the Domersville Road Defiance County Roadway Resurfacing Project and the County Road 424 Shoulder Widening Project.

·       The entire length of Domersville Road will be repaved, and 100% funded by Federal CSTP (County Surface Transportation Program) funds.

·       For the County Road 424 Project, the County and the City of Defiance submitted a joint proposal to incorporate the replacement of the Clinton Street bridge into an alternative transportation project that will provide aesthetic and recreational improvements to the Bridge, provide enhancements for bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Bridge and Independence Dam State Park, provide public recreational amenities along the north bank of the Maumee River in furtherance of the long term strategic plan to improve water quality and reduce flood losses by creating an integrated system of parks on the banks of the Maumee, Auglaize and Tiffin rivers, stabilize the north bank of the Maumee River, and, by so doing, potentially reduce the cost to eliminate undesirable discharges from the combined sewer system. Transportation Alternatives Program funds are being used to cover 95% of the anticipated cost of the project.

 

Greg Reinhart and Jan Rethmel, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Greg reported billing $59,218.54, collecting $57,730.93, and having expenses of $36,301.65 in February.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss various pending legal matters.
