The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services’ Director, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Tina reported that May is Senior Citizen's month; they have several events planned throughout the month. The 6th annual "For The Health of It" Senior Info Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8th at the UAW Hall from 9:30am to 1:00pm. Defiance County Senior Services / Genesis —

Twin Rivers and Great Lakes Caring and Hospice are busy planning this event. They have 40 vendors offering excellent information to our seniors. There will also be a key speaker, soups samplings, hot dogs, desserts from Slammin' Sammies and door prizes. The Senior Prom, planned for Wednesday, May 16th at The Defiance Eagles. Dinner is at 5:00pm with music and dancing until 8:00pm.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners to provide a quarterly update.  Randy reported investigating 133 complaints, which resulted in no dogs taken to the shelter, 54 citations issued, and 14 warnings written. There was $1,535.00 received in Municipal Court fines.

 

Jason Roehrig, Defiance County Soil & Water Conservation District, met with the Commissioners to provide a quarterly update. Jason reported that there are several varieties of trees, including fruit tree packs, available for purchase from their annual tree sale. Jason reported that the Culp Ditch is about 60% completed. The next ditch project scheduled is Jackman Ditch, with a bid opening scheduled for June 14th.
