The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 in the in the Commissionersí Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.


The Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.


Based on the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, the Commissioners awarded the 2018 Paving of Various Roads Proposal A to the low bidder of Henry W Bergman in the amount bid by them of $37,042.00.


Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a weekly update for the Engineerís Office and the Landfill. Warren informed the Board that the contractors began patching and concrete widening in the County. The bridge has been removed on Watson Road, and abutments will begin to be installed.


Jerry Hayes and Carla Hinkle, Defiance County Economic Development, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Carla informed the Board that two Summer Manufacturing Camps have been scheduled. Defiance Middle School is scheduled for July 17-20; Hicksville High School is scheduled for July 24-27. The cost to the students is $50.00, and there are scholarships available. Both camps are open to any students in grades 6-8. There are also volunteers needed for these Camps.


Corey Walker, Defiance Paulding Consolidated Job & Family Servicesí Director, and Pete Prichard, Northwest State Community College, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the CCMEP (Comprehensive Case Management and Employment Program) This is a regional approach of six Counties, and is managed by Wood County. The purpose of this program is to assist citizens to obtain the training necessary to find and retain employment in the region. The Program connects with the local companies to determine the training needs they need to find qualified job candidates.


After interviews with Renee Wank and Nick Siewert, the Board appointed them to two-year terms on the Northwest Ohio Regional Child Abuse and Child Neglect Prevention Council. The Northwest Ohio Regional Child Abuse and Child Neglect Prevention Councilís purpose is to address child abuse and child neglect prevention services through a process of identifying needs, determining strategies to address those needs. The Northwest Ohio Regional Child Abuse and Child Neglect Prevention Council is directed by Mercy Health.
