The
Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on
Monday, June 11, 2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court
Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Mick
Pocratsky and Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The
Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the
calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners
certified the May Solid Waste Disposal Submittal Forms for the Landfill
facilities. Defiance Township, as the host government agency, received $2,782.72. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) also received $3,291.79 for the construction, &
demolition debris (C&DD) waste. Monthly (MSW) Disposal fees paid to the Ohio EPA for the Defiance
County Landfill was $39,205.50. The Four County Solid Waste District received $13,866.00.
Warren
Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a
weekly update on the Engineer’s Office and a monthly update for the Landfill.
Warren reported that there were sales of $455,936.36 in May from 53,291 cubic
yards and 14,422.65 tons. This compares to sales of $379,828.95 in May 2017
from 43,916 cubic yards and 12,407.77 tons.
Kirstie
Mack, Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau, met with the Commissioners to
provide an update. Kirstie reported that there is now a Farmers Market downtown.
She stated that this compliments the Farmers Market at the Mall; it does not
compete with the event. She reminded the Board that Riverfest is at Pontiac
Park June 22 and 23, 2018 and Ribfest is scheduled for September 29, 2018.
Julie
Voll, Defiance County Family & Children First, met with the Commissioners
to review the application for the Regional Early Intervention Grant. The Board
approved submitting the grant.
Morris
Murray and Russ Herman, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, met with
the Commissioners to provide an update on various legal matters.
The
Commissioners met with Mayor McCann, Jen English, Jeff Leonard, Jon Lehner, and
Sean O’Donnell, City of Defiance to discuss water quality issues. Jeff and Jen
explained that they are attempting to form a local and regional collaborative
approach for water quality initiatives and reviewed their efforts to date.
