The
Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on
Monday, July 9, 2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court
Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Mick
Pocratsky and Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The
Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the
calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Warren
Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a
weekly update for the Engineer’s Office and a monthly update for the Landfill.
Warren reported that the paving of Ney Williams Center Road should be completed
at the beginning of this week, with the contractor then finishing the patching.
The contractor will then move to Fruit Ridge Road, after the Highway Department
finishes the widening project. Warren reported that the Great American Cleanup
was a huge success. 6,040 pounds of trash were picked up along roads or
contained at local events. 60 pounds of aluminum were recycled. 4 tires were
removed from roadside. 130 miles were picked up. 159 acres of parks were
cleaned up. 4 miles of waterways were cleaned. 3 neighborhoods were cleaned up
as a part of a local project day, and areas were beautified with 20 flowerbeds,
10 hanging baskets and 4 trees planted. This was all accomplished by 281
volunteers.
Charlie
Weber, Noble Township Fire Chief, and Darrel Rock, Sherwood Fire Chief, met
with the Commissioners to discuss the new physical requirements for new
volunteer firefighters taking the required trainings at Four County Career
Center. They inquired if they could possibly use Activate Healthcare for the
physicals. The Commissioners stated that they would research this.
